Basic Info
Name:Lucy Barker (OU)
Location:United States
Bio
Character: Lucy Barker
Series/Fandom: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Original or Alternate: Original.

Age: 36
Gender: Female.
Species: Human.
Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Appearance: Very little of the beauty Lucy once possessed remains now these days. Where her hair was once bright and yellow and silky to the touch, it has now faded to a coarse, sandy blonde, falling down her back in a mess of curls and tangles. Her clothing, once clean and elegantly worn, is now nothing more than a filthy, tattered dress, falling apart at the seams. Countless years of living on the streets with very little money has left her rather emaciated. Her hazel eyes are slightly sunken and no longer hold the light they once shone with, and her skin, once pale and smooth and beautiful, is scarred and smeared with street-filth. Lucy tends to keep her head tipped low, rarely making eye-contact with others, and her posture is poor more often than not.
Personality: After fifteen years of a life that only seemed to be getting worse and worse, Lucy doesn’t seem to have to have a very firm grasp on reality anymore, nor her sanity. Her curiosity for the simplest things is almost childlike and naïve, and often get her into trouble. She tends to shy away from physical contact unless she initiated it first, and even then she is very wary and hesitant of others. More often than not, she can be found wandering and muttering quietly to herself.

Every now and again, some of her sanity returns and she seems to calm, but these moments are brief and rare.
Abilities/Strengths: Lucy is very good at stealing and pick pocketing. Fifteen years spent living on the streets of London have helped her perfect this skill. Her former self, the woman she was before she fell to madness, knew how to sew and cook, but it has been so long since Lucy has done either that it is very likely she has forgotten how. She was also known to have a beautiful voice in her day.
Weaknesses: Lucy’s past is her ultimate weakness. Memories of the loss of her husband and child, and the actions of a certain judge plague her constantly and have left her broken, weak, and slightly mad. She also has a difficulty time trusting others as well as being social. Her childlike curiosity/nosiness could also be considered a problem, as it has gotten her into plenty of trouble in the past.
Notable Possessions: A silver ring that she wears on a chain around her neck, keeping it safely tucked away inside the collar of her dress.

Weapons: Lucy carries no weapons on her person.

History: Born in London to a middle-class family, Lucy lived a fairly normal life. As a child, she spent most of her time with her mother, learning how to sew and knit, and how a proper lady was supposed to act. Her father, a composer, taught her how to play the piano.

As she grew older, Lucy blossomed into a beautiful woman and many a man fought to win her love, but only one could steal her heart completely. His name was Benjamin Barker, a well-known barber residing on Fleet Street. The two quickly fell in love and married, and soon after, Lucy gave Benjamin the most precious gift any woman could give a man: a child whom she would name Johanna.

With the birth of their daughter, the couple couldn’t be happier, living comfortably in Benjamin’s barber shop, just above a pie shop run by a Mrs. Nellie Lovett. Benjamin’s business was doing quite well and his reputation only grew. Lucy would often keep her husband company has he worked, keeping out of the way at the opposite end of the shop where she would entertain Johanna quietly. Very rarely did anyone see the family separated, until one Sunday afternoon, while the family was visiting the flower market. Unbeknownst to the Barkers, a well-known Judge by the name of Turpin waited in the shadows, looking for the perfect moment to strike, and when he found it, he sent in the authorities to arrest Benjamin and take him away. Lucy watched in horror as the police beat her husband and dragged him away, struck with grief, and confusion, a crying Johanna in her arms. Not moments after Benjamin had been removed, the Judge at her side, offering his sympathy.

Something about the entire situation didn’t sit right with Lucy and she retreated to her home above the barbershop, locking herself away. She knew Benjamin was a good, honest man—and maybe—maybe if she just waited, the police would see that and let him return home.

For days, weeks Lucy waited, staring out the window for any sign of her husband, and for weeks, the Judge and his Beadle would stand just below, offering flowers and apologies, but Lucy would have none of it.

After months had passed with no improvement, the Judge became fed up with her nonsense and sent the Beadle to fetch her and bring her to his home. Lucy was mildly surprised to find the Beadle at her door, and even more surprised when he took her by the arm and led her out, announcing that Judge Turpin requested her presence and that he would like to apologize. Lucy, hoping that the Judge had atoned, followed, hoping it would mean the return of her husband. The two of them were greeted at the house with a masquerade ball. Lucy insisted that she come back another time, but the Beadle prevented her from leaving, encouraging her visit with the Judge. Lucy agreed to stay and found herself lost in the crowd of people and with a drink in hand. It was not long until the room began to spin, and faintly, she asked for the Judge, stumbling backwards onto a sofa. The Judge, having watched her every move from the moment she arrived, swooped in on her and proceeded to rape her. When she came to, Lucy fled, only to find that her Johanna was missing.

For days she searched for her daughter, begging and crying for anyone and everyone to help her, and when the baby could not be found, Lucy was filled with so much grief and despair—more than she could handle on her own, alone. With her husband gone and her only link to him missing, she had nothing, she was nothing. Lucy found that she could no longer go on, and she poisoned herself with arsenic from the apothecary, hoping to kill herself. Unfortunately, the drug was not strong enough.

Over the years, Lucy’s health spiraled downwards rapidly and when Mrs. Lovett found that she was unable to help the poor woman, she left her to the streets of London. Lucy roamed day and night, muttering to herself and begging for spare pennies, and when no one would give them freely, she began to sell herself.

Every now and again, Lucy would visit the old shop under Mrs. Lovett’s permission, spending hours and hours just sitting and waiting until the baker would come and lead her out, promising that she could come back again the next day. It wasn’t until Mrs. Lovett suddenly shooed her away one day that she became curious, and ultimately, her curiosity would kill her.

One night, Lucy snuck into the shop, curious of the Beadles business in her husband’s old shop, but instead of finding short, stout man, she was met with a familiar face.

“Don’t I know you, mister?” she had said to him, her last words before he slit her throat and killed her, unaware that she was what was left of the wife he once knew.
